Bangkok Day 1 - 21st June 2010

Bangkok Day 1 - 21st June 2010

Everything began early in the morning even before the sun rised. Met at Changi Airport at 5:30am but was hit with bad news that our flight got delayed 3hrs.. not a very great start.. but things work out eventually..

Had breakfast at a coffeeshop around the corner and boy the size of their egg yolk is HUGE.. though this american breakfast isnt my first chioce but instead Laksa was.. i realised like all other tourism area.. they scammed our money by not adding any Hum's into it.. perhaps is because of other foreigners visiting there..

Afterwards we had simply too much time so we went into their supermarket.. and decided to play a game.. we are supposed to collect 10 items and the cost must be as close as possible to $10.. and after which.. we are supposed to exchange our basket and put things back where they belong.. spent away some of our time and very soon its time for us to depart..

On board the Jetstar.. it was much better than what i expected.. but honestly i have a bad impression of it after people described it to me as squeezy and not much leg spaces.. so moral of this is to always have a lousy impression so you wouldnt be expecting too much.. In fact after this.. i kinda like Jetstar.. but definitely not for long journeys..

Upon reaching and zooming pass buildings and roads and shops.. we arrived at Ecotel.. a decent budget hotel that is within walking distance to most of the shopping areas and is very comfortable too.. They sometime have doormen to open the door for you which is a really plus point but half the time the doormen isnt there.. Definitely a hotel i will recommend to anyone that is visiting Bangkok on a Budget..

Room itself is big enough to fit us comfortably and there are basic stuffs such as tv which have some english channels.. fridge which i think is important.. safe which i think is useless but great to have.. and hairdryer which is important when my shoes get slightly wet.. =/ For ~Sgd60 a night.. quite worth it i say..

After putting down our bags and luggages.. we went down to see what will be our first bangkok food and we came across this Kway Chap stall which we chose due to the high number of customers in it.. (this was later suggested by our tour guide that this is the best food and famous around here..) But seriously its really nice.. so nice we just want to come back for more everyday.. Alot of ingredients and the pepperly soup is simple awesome! And it cost 50Baht (S$2) This is a definitely MUST TRY!

Then we went to 7-11 to get some drinks and they had a Black Lemon Tea which has a bitter taste along with the sweet taste of lemon tea.. quite an interesting and nice drink.. but i have to say their construction is haywire.. there is a pillar.. in the middle of a junction and it basically blocked the entire road.. amusingly fail..

So after we had all the energy from the food.. its shopping time! Most of today is spent at the Platinum Mall which is a freaking huge 6 level shopping malls which has a variety of clothes to choose from.. (and not repeated stuffs with every shops) We went back there almost everyday so its really somewhere you must go too.. Other places are like Pratunam Market and Pratunam Center but they cannot really compare themself to the Platinum Mall..

No pictures during the shopping because its non stop action of flipping through all the clothes and bargaining for a cheaper deal.. Prices there are mostly unfixed so bargaining is a must even though its CHEAP already.. why settle for CHEAP when you can get CHEAPER.. Beside that is where all the fun come from because it isnt something that common back in Singapore.. And we bought so much that everytime i leave the hotel with an empty bag.. i return with one that is full to the max.. Guys Tshirts are about S$6 while Girls are mostly S$4 and below..

Dinner was a restaurant also somewhere around the corner of our hotel which serve relatively cheap seafood and fishes.. highlight is definitely their fish which is meaty.. huge.. and deliciously fresh! Like their tomyam soup too.. Thai are really good with Tomyam..

The whole dinner is really very yummy.. A vegetable, a fish, a soup, 4 coconuts, 4 bowls of rices and it cost us about S$7 each.. over there we are all happy birds that go CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP everywhere.. and this conclude our Day 1..
